The Montgomery County Sheriff believes someone has information that would solve the murders of Virginia Tech students Heidi Childs and David Metzler.

Sheriff Tommy Whitt thinks that key tip leading to an arrest is in the mind of someone and that it just hasn't clicked yet.

"It's either someone local or someone who knows this area," says Montgomery County Sheriff, Tommy Whitt.

The young couple was shot in the Caldwell Fields area along Craig Creek Road on August 26th.

Since then, investigators have received about 700 tips, but nothing has lead to an arrest yet.

"This person is not going to stand out like some type of monster or something," says Whitt.

Heidi Childs and David Metzler killer is still out there somewhere, and Sheriff Tommy Whitt says it's likely that person's behavior has changed recently.

"They may be consuming more alcoholic beverages. Maybe missing more work. Behavioral changes, sleep difficulties have all arisen from what they have done," says Whitt.

And that's what he's hoping people will purposely take notice of.

"I cannot imagine how a person has committed such a brutal crime and is still in our community or someone around here and lay their head down and sleep," says Whitt.

The sheriff is of course urging the person or people who did this to turn themselves in.

If you think you might have information for investigators, call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.
