Undercover operation to address prostitution nabs 9 men, 3 women

Roanoke police used an undercover operation to arrest nine men seeking prostitutes.

On Tuesday and Wednesday night, officers posed as prostitutes on Marshall and Chapman Avenues, 12th Street and Franklin Road.

The men were all charged with attempting to solicit. Three women were also charged with prostitution.

The police department says it will conduct the stings again.

The Roanoke Police Department held an undercover operation on April 20 and 21, 2010, to address prostitution.  Nine males (three of the males were charged with two counts of prostitution each) were charged for attempting to solicit undercover officers who were posing as prostitutes.  In addition, three females were charged with prostitution.  The operation was conducted on Marshall and Chapman Avenues, 12th Street, and Franklin Road.

The Police Department will continue to conduct similar operations to address prostitution during the spring and summer months.
