Here is the full press release:

LEXINGTON, Va., May 8, 2010 – The cost of attending Virginia Military Institute will increase 8.2 percent for Virginia residents and 5.4 percent for out-of-state residents for the academic year beginning in August.

The VMI Board of Visitors approved the tuition and fee increase at its meeting May 8. The cost for in-state cadets will increase from $17,982 to $19,460. For out-of-state cadets, the cost increases from $35,530 to $37,452. The increase in tuition reflects program cost increases and reductions in state support.

Unlike most other colleges, cadets are required to live in the college's barracks throughout their cadetships, making room and board a required fee. In addition, the cost of attending VMI includes a mandatory fee to cover the costs of tailoring and laundering of uniforms, and other activities of a unique military nature.
