An April marathon on the Blue Ridge Parkway has paid off in a big way.
Organizers of the marathon presented the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway with a $20,000 check.
Executive Director of Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway Susan Mills said the event was a "team effort with tremendous community support."
Over 900 runners took part in the 26.2 mile run.
The group will use the money for events along the parkway and for the Save Parkway Views Program.
Marathon organizers say the race has received excellent reviews.
Sixth District Congressman Bob Goodlatte, the Honorary Race chair, said he hopes the marathon will "continue to grow and make contributions to the quality of life" in the Roanoke Valley.
Organizers are already working on next year's event.
