RADFORD,Va. — Nursing is gaining even more ground at Radford University.
President Penny Kyle welcomed 33 students to it's newest doctoral program with a special luncheon on Thursday.
The Doctor of Nursing program at RU is the first in the state to offer the courses on-line.
Majorie Young has 25 years experience as a nurse and is Director of Women's Health Services at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
She said more education will help her provide an even higher level of care for patients.
"As health care is changing as our society is changing as just the whole realm of education changes, you need to get the whole picture to bring it all together to be able to further it.  It's another piece of the puzzle," said Young.
Students accepted into this doctor of nursing program have bachelor degrees in nursing and some also have their master's as well.
