UPDATED: Man charged with DUI following Route 8 wreck that injures two

The road is now open near Smith Creek Road

MONTGOMERY CO., Va. — UPDATED:7:30 a.m.

A Pulaski County man has been charged following a single-vehicle crash that injured two people in Montgomery County.

Police say 21-year-old Thomas Wade was driving north on Riner Road, or route 8, around 9 last night when his vehicle crossed the center line, struck an embankment and flipped.

One passenger was ejected and is in critical condition this morning.

A second passenger was seriously injured.

Wade was treated for minor injuries.

He's been charged with driving under the influence.

Additional charges against him are pending.

UPDATED:4:15 a.m.

According to VDOT, all lanes have now re-opened in the area.

Route 8, also known as Riner Road, is closed in Montgomery County because of an accident.  

It happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

The road is closed in both directions near Smith Creek Road.

A detour is in place.
