RUSTBURG, Va. — Charges are moving forward against a former Brookneal police officer.

36-year-old Brian Lee Carr was indicted Monday by a Campbell County grand jury on a charge of grand larceny.

The Nathalie man was arrested by Virginia State Police on April 26, following an undercover investigation.  At that time, he was serving as acting chief of the Brookneal police force.

During a July preliminary hearing, investigators testified that an undercover agent had turned a wallet into Carr and told him it was stolen property. When another agent tried to claim the wallet, investigators say it only contained four dollars.

Carr's case is scheduled to be tried in Campbell County Circuit Court January 20, 2011.
