BEDFORD, Va. — A Huddleston man is accused of committing sex crimes against children.

Mahlon Stevens is charged with aggravated sexual battery, among other charges.

Bedford County Investigator Josh Hubbard says Stevens committed acts against two victims, possibly over a number of years.  Prosecutors say Stevens knew both of his alleged victims.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation into Stevens after an anonymous complaint was made to social services.

Stevens was a parent to eight children he adopted from social services.  Hubbard says all have either moved out of Stevens' house or been placed in protective custody.

Stevens is scheduled to appear in Bedford County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for a preliminary hearing October 4.  He is currently out of jail on a $15,000 bond.
