Drug charges move forward against former Amherst investigator

William Linwood Inge is a former drug education officer. He's accused of attempting to illegally purchase drugs after his retirement from law enforcement.

AMHERST, Va. — An Amherst County judge has certified drug charges against a former Amherst County deputy.

60-year-old William Linwood Inge, Jr. is accused of attempting to illegally purchase drugs.  The alleged offense occured after his retirement from the sheriff's office.

During his more than two decades in law enforement, Inge worked with both the Amherst and Charlotte County Sheriff's Offices.  In Amherst, Inge worked with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program, which educates students about the dangers of drugs and drug abuse.

Inge's case will be considered for possible indictment by an upcoming meeting of the Grand Jury in Amherst.
