AMHERST COUNTY, Va. — An Amherst County woman is recovering from burns she suffered in a house fire.

Flames broke out at 222 Surry Lane Saturday night just before 5:00. Barbara Scott was inside the home.

The 70-year-old was taken by helicopter to UVA hospital in Charlottesville with severe burns. Officials tell News7 she is in stable condition.

Three firefighters also suffered minor injuries and were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.  They have been treated and released.

Amherst Public Safety Director Gary Roakes says the house is a total loss.  He believes the fire started on the front porch, but the cause is still under investigation.
