Snowy weather in one section of Wythe Co. cancels school for all students

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. — Wythe County public school students stayed home on Tuesday because of weather that hit only a section of the county.
It was freezing Tuesday afternoon in Wytheville, below 20 degrees, but the roads where clear.
It was a totally different scene about 10 miles down the road in Rural Retreat where snow blanketed the area, and it's exactly why school wasn't in session.
"So, we've got three to five inches in one end of the county, one inch in this end of the county and less than an inch in another end of the county," said Superintendent Lee Brannon.
This makes five snow days so far for Wythe County.
Superintendent Lee Brannon said two snow days were built in for December just in case.
This year, students can plan on going to school next Monday and Tuesday to help make up the days.
Last school year, Wythe County had 23 snow days.
