Roanoke man shot in robbery

Roanoke Police are searching for a man who stole a moped and then shot the owner early Friday.

The victim told police that he saw the man trying to steal his moped in front of his home.

When he went outside to confront the man, he pulled out a gun and demanded the keys.

When the victim handed the keys over, the thief shot him.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a robbery in which the victim suffered a gunshot wound.

The victim stated that on the morning of March 18, 2011, he observed a male attempting to steal his moped which was located outside of his residence on Harrison Avenue.


The victim stated that he went outside and the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded the keys to the moped.

The victim reportedly gave the suspect the keys and was then shot by the suspect.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made.  The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 25 and 30.

He was described as wearing all black clothing.

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding this or other crimes should call the Roanoke Police Department at 853-5959 or Crime Line at 344-8500.

Crime Line may offer a monetary reward for any information leading to an arrest.
