LYNCHBURG, Va. — One of the nation's largest universities is right here in our backyard.

New data from the U.S. Department of Education ranks Liberty University as the eighth largest school in America, in terms of enrollment.

With more than 64,000 students, LU is also the largest four-year school in Virginia.

Most of Liberty's students, about 54,000, are in the online program.  Roughly 12,000 students are taking classes on campus.

Liberty has seen rapid growth over the last decade.  In 2000, the school's total enrollment was around 8,600 students.
