3 guys plan to double Blue Ridge marathon in Roanoke

These "ultra marathoners" will run the course twice

ROANOKE, Va —

It may sound crazy but three guys plan to run Saturday's Blue Ridge marathon not once, but twice.

They call themselves 'ultra marathoners'.

Two runners are from Michigan and the third lives in Ohio. The group began their trek to Roanoke Friday morning.

Kevin Green, Ryan Miller and J.P. Preston checked in for the marathon Friday evening along with hundreds of other runners at the Taubman Museum of Art downtown.

Their plan is simple. They will start the first marathon at 2:30a.m. on Saturday and stay together since they don't know the course.

"At least for the first 26.2 miles we're gonna stick with each other, get each other through it as well we're gonna be carrying maps," says Ryan Miller, "We got our map guy here Kevin who's going to be guiding us through."

The men expect the first marathon will take about 5 hours. They plan to finish right before the official marathon begins at 7:30a.m. and then run the course all over again.

They've done this before so the Blue Ridge mountains don't scare them even though it's known as America's toughest road marathon.
