2 charged with stealing victim's van

Investigators say they suspect foul play and the homeowner's van is missing

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Martinsville Police have confirmed the identity of a man found dead inside his home.

Police say Donald K. Lawson was killed at 806 Parkview Avenue in Martinsville.

While investigating the murder, police determined that Lawson’s van had been stolen.

The van was found late Tuesday night in Henrico County.

41-year-old Kenneth Smith of Martinsville and 24-year-old Amanda Alexander of Martinsville have been charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

On May 24, 2011, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Officers of the Martinsville Police Department received a call of a possible burglary at 806 Parkview Avenue in the City of Martinsville.  Upon arrival officers found the body of a white male subject inside the residence.  The body has been confirmed as that of Donald K. Lawson.

Shortly after arriving, Investigators determined that a 2005 White Chevrolet Van Virginia License DKL-2 was missing from the residence.  This vehicle is registered to Mr. Lawson.  The van was entered into NCIC/VCIN and a statewide broadcast was issued in search of the vehicle.  The Van was recovered late last night in the Henrico County, Virginia area by the Henrico County Police Department.  The van was recovered without incident.   


Felony Charges have been placed against the following subjects for Breaking and Entering and Grand Larceny of a motor vehicle.

Martinsville Investigators arrived in the Henrico area early this morning and the investigation is continuing at this time. 


Police in Martinsville are investigating the death of a man as a murder case.

A man was found dead in a home on Parkview Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Right now police aren't releasing the victim's name, but tell News 7 the home where the body was found belonged to Donald Lawson.

Investigators say they suspect foul play and Lawson's van is missing.

There is an obituary in the Martinsville Bulletin today for Donald Lawson. It says he died at his home on Tuesday.
