LYNCHBURG, Va. — A local furniture company is doing a little redecorating for some needy families in Lynchburg.

Grand Home Furnishings is making a big donation to Miriam's House, a transitional housing facility for homeless women and their children.  Many residents live there for up to six months while recovering from issues like job loss, substance abuse, and financial strain.

Grand is giving Miriam's House more than a dozen new sofas, chairs, love seats, and even a desk.  The donation is part of the furniture retailer's "Grand Gestures" program.

This is the first time Miriam's House has received new furniture since the shelter opened 17 years ago.
