Cats break record at Roanoke Valley SPCA

SPCA needs people to foster homeless animals.

ROANOKE, Va — You could say it was a cat-tastic month.

The Roanoke Valley SPCA broke a record for highest number of cat adoptions.  At least 93 cats found homes in June.

That's good news because cages are full. The SPCA is asking people to help make space by fostering animals.

"There have been so many stray animals, so many owner surrenders, people that can't afford to keep their pets," says Tracy Smith, Director of Adoption Services, "So many people that haven't had their pet spayed or neutered so there's just litters upon litters of kittens and puppies."

There was a total of 190 adoptions in June at the Roanoke Valley SPCA. That's the second highest number for one month. The top month was back in 2005.

The SPCA credits pet specials and Facebook.
