ROANOKE, Va. — A car crash around noon Monday slowed down traffic on northbound Interstate 581, near the Tenth Street bridge.
Police say Timothy Carter from Radford ran off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail, then crossed all three lanes and crashed into the right guardrail.
It took rescue crews around 25 minutes to pull Carter from the car. Police say he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Carter was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He is charged with reckless driving.
The accident has been cleared.
A wreck is tying up traffic on Interstate 581 in Roanoke.
It happened in the northbound lanes near exit 3C, the Valley View exit. One lane is open at this time.
