What's the future of Roanoke's Countryside Golf Course?

August 01, 2011|Hollani Davis | Anchor/Reporter

Roanoke, Va. — Many in Northwest Roanoke fought hard to keep Countryside Golf course in place.  Since that didn't happen new offers are turning up for the property.

Roanoke's City Council has received three letters of interest.  One from the Northwest Recreation Club and Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer offers to turn the land into a sports complex for soccer, tennis, basketball and volleyball.

Another request from would be to use the land for an urban farm market.  This request is from the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op.

The third idea comes from L&M Properties.  It would like to to turn part of the property into an indoor tennis facility.

While all three letters of interest were consistent with the Countryside Master Plan, Council has advised at this time to move forward with discussions and public involvement with the proposed concepts.
