Fincastle – The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department’s Upper James River Water Trail received top honors from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society winning in 2 different categories: “Best Promotional Effort- Basic for 2010”, for the Upper James River Water Trail Brochure. The award was given in the population category of 25,001-50,000. The second award “Best Promotional Effort Electronic Media” was for the Upper James River Water Trail website in the same population category.
Pete Peters, Director of Botetourt County's Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, accepted the awards at the Society’s annual conference in Norfolk, Virginia. “The Water Trail project has allowed Botetourt County residents and visitors to the area to enjoy the James River by combining the river access points with the kiosks for an enhanced and safer river experience. The brochure and website have proven to be great tools for promoting the project. Future plans for the trail include developing new and making additional improvements to existing accesses points,” says Peters.
