ROANOKE, Va. — Both directions of Route 220 in the Hunting Hills area of Roanoke are down to one lane after a deadly car crash. Roanoke police are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible. That's near the Outback Steakhouse and new Kohl's.
The driver of a car was killed after being hit by a tractor trailer. The wreck happened a little after 3:45 p.m. The tractor trailer driver was not hurt.

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a fatal wreck that occurred on October 14, 2011. Officers responded at 3:47 p.m. to the 4300 block of Franklin Road. A tractor trailer and a vehicle wrecked in the north bound lanes. The driver of the vehicle was the only individual in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was the only individual in that vehicle and was not transported to the hospital. No charges have been filed at this time. The cause is under investigation. Both the north and south bound lanes have been reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers are asked to avoid that area if possible. The lane closures will remain in affect as officers conduct their investigation.
