UPDATED: Bedford Co. deputy accused of taking indecent liberties with a child

State Police say Deputy Ernest William Grubbs of Bedford was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. UPDATED: Thursday 10:10 a.m. — A former Bedford County sheriff's deputy charged with taking indecent liberties with a child has been released on bond.  Ernest William Grubbs was released on a $5,000 bond.  Grubbs is due back in court on November 2nd to advise about his attorney.

The Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has asked for a special prosecutor in the case.  Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Wes Nance said the request was made because of the frequent interaction between the sheriff's department and prosecutor's office.

A Bedford County Deputy has been arrested for allegedly taking indecent liberties with a child.

State Police say Deputy Ernest William Grubbs of Bedford was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on 12 counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with a child by a person in a custodial relationship.

Grubbs was a School Resource Officer at Liberty High School.

He's being held on 5 thousand dollars bond.

Grubbs was also terminated by the Sheriff's Office.

State Police say they investigated the allegations after being notified of Grubbs' alleged actions by the Bedford County Department of Social Services on Monday.

On October 19th, 2011 Deputy E.W. Grubbs was arrested by the Virginia State Police for twelve counts of Indecent Liberties of a Minor by Custodian.

Mr. Grubbs was a School Resource Officer at Liberty High School.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Officer has worked with the Virginia State Police, Child Protective Services, Bedford County School Administration and the victim's family during this investigation.

Mr. Grubbs’ employment with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office was terminated today.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office is currently working with Bedford's Commonwealth Attorney and the Virginia State Police. 

The Virginia State Police are conducting the criminal investigation.

He is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Bedford on $5000.00 bond.

Arrangements are currently being made through the Bedford Commonwealth's Attorney and the Circuit Court for a Special Prosecutor to be assigned to assist the State Police as appropriate.
