Standoff in Martinsville ends with man killing himself

Investigators also found an active meth lab

UPDATED 1:30 p.m.: A standoff in Martinsville began Tuesday morning when U.S. Marshals tried serving a search warrant, and ended with investigators finding a meth lab and the suspect killing himself.

On Tuesday morning investigators tried serving a search warrant to a mobile home in Henry County.

The suspect, Steven Ray Bishop, was not at the mobile home. But investigators found an active meth lab.

Bishop was wanted on sex offender and drug distribution charges.

After further investigation, authorities learned that Bishop may be at another home in Martinsville.

When investigators got there, they heard a single gunshot.

After making entry into the home, they discovered Bishop killed himself.

Bishop was 40-years-old and from Bassett.


UPDATED 10:15 a.m.: The standoff in Martinsville appears to have ended.


Police are working a standoff in Martinsville.

We're told the home where the situation is on Drewry Road.

That's off of Reaves Road.
