Bowl games score big sales at local businesses


Martin Travel sold 100 flight and hotel packages in less than three hours on Monday.

ROANOKE, Va — Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia have both scored bowl games.    

UVA will play Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on December 31.  While the Hokies face Michigan in the Sugar Bowl on January 3.

Fans aren't wasting time showing their support.

Phones were busy at Martin Travel in Roanoke on Monday.

The company's website also got a lot of traffic from people booking hotel and flight packages for the Virginia Tech bowl game. 100 packages were sold in less than three hours.

Fans were also stocking up on everything Hokie at Gobbler Gear in Salem.

"There has been a lot of customers coming in," says owner Cliff Horn, "But ever since the announcement last night our online has just been real incredible."

Gobbler Gear had a stack of more than 50 boxes at the front door for the post office to pick up. All the boxes contained merchandise ordered online since the the bowl announcement.
