FLOYD COUNTY, Va. UPDATED: 1:15 p.m. — UPDATED: 10:00 p.m. State Police release name of man killed in crash

State Police say Christopher Paul Hairston, age 35 of Floyd, Virginia was killed when he tried to pass another car on a double yellow lilne and hit a tractor trailer.

UPDATED 4:10 p.m.: Route 8 is back open.


Deputies say one person was killed when a car and tractor trailer crashed head-on in Floyd County.  The crash is still blocking Route 8, about a mile south of the Montgomery County line.

Investigators say the driver of the car was killed.  The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have not released the name of the person who was killed.


Officials say a Floyd County road will be blocked for several hours because of a tractor-trailer accident.

Route 8, or Webbs Mill Road, in Floyd County is blocked in both directions near Alum Ridge Road.


That's about one mile south of Montgomery County line.

It will be several hours before the road is reopened.

Traffic in both directions is being re-routed to Routes 617 and 602.
