Franklin County corrections officer allegedly exposes himself to female inmate

Dustin Patterson has been charged with two misdemeanors and suspended without pay

ROANOKE, Va. — A female inmate says a Franklin County corrections officer got sexual with her on a trip to jail in October.

Virginia State Police conducted an investigation and charged Dustin Patterson with sexual battery and indecent exposure.

Patterson has been suspended from the sheriff's office without pay. He's been with the department since 2010. Before that he worked at the Roanoke City jail.

A Franklin County corrections officer has been charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and
indecent exposure.

A female inmate has alleged that Dustin Harley Patterson, 26, of Ferrum, VA, conducted
himself "improperly" while he was transporting her to Western Virginia Regional Jail on Oct. 22.

When the woman filed a complaint several days after the incident, the Franklin County Sheriff's
Office requested the Virginia State Police (VSP) to conduct an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Patterson was suspended without pay.

Patterson was issued summons by the VSP on Tuesday to appear in Roanoke County General
District Court on January 11, 2012.

Patterson was hired by the sheriff's office on Nov. 1, 2010. Before that, he had been a
corrections officer with the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office since May 2008.
