Updated: Victim's name released in fatal accident on I-81 in Rockbridge County

The driver of a tractor trailer was killed in Monday night's accident.

News7 has learned the name of the driver killed in a tractor trailer crash on Interstate 81.

State Police identify him as Brian David McEwen of Birmingham, Alabama.

He was 28 years old.

McEwen was killed after his 18-wheeler crashed into another tractor trailer truck and burst into flames.

Traffic was delayed for hours after the wreck, but traffic is moving once again.

The accident happened on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County around mile marker 196.

State Police say the driver of the other tractor trailer is Steve Wilson of Union City, Georgia.

There's no word on his condition.

The accident has been cleared. Traffic should be back to normal.


Update: 7:15 a.m. 1/31

Crews are still on the scene of the crash.  All northbound lanes around mile marker 196 on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County are still closed.

A detour has been set up at exit 195 to US-11 traveling north and back to the interstate at exit 213.



Update: 9:00 p.m. 1/30

State Police say one person died in the accident on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County.

The name of that person is not being released yet.

Traffic is still backed up in the area.


Drivers should expect delayson Interstate 81 near Rockbridge County. 

Virginia State police say there is a tractor trailer accident blocking both northbound lanes of the road near mile marker 197.

A detour is in place, but backups should be expected.
