ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. — The day begins with instructions before hiking over a creek and through the woods. An experience shared by nearly 100 Hollins University faculty, staff, and students.

Friday afternoon, they volunteered their time and labor to clear a new portion of the Tinker Creek Greenway trail. The new trail runs three-quarters of a mile from Plantation Road across Hollins property.

The university agreed to an easement for the Greenway so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors.

The volunteers put in nearly three hours of work. The president of the university couldn't be any prouder of her students.

The students and the staff tell us they don't mind even though they're sweating bullets.

The trail will eventually hook up all the way.  It should be ready and open to the public in the next few months.
