UPDATED: Multi-vehicle accident causing delays in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. — A multi-vehicle accident in Montgomery County has been cleared.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.

A truck heading north hit an SUV and another truck that were heading south. 

Two people were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial, another person was taken to the New River Valley Medical Center. 

There is no word on how serious the injuries are. 

Investigators are also working to find out what caused the crash. 


A multi-vehicle accident is causing some traffic delays in Montgomery County. 

The accident happened on Route 8 near Smith Creek Road.

Virginia 511 says both the north and southbound lanes are closed. 

We have a crew on the way and will have more information as it becomes available. 

In the meantime, northbound traffic is being detoured onto Route 658 to VA-177 North to Interstate 81 South.


Southbound traffic is being detoured onto Route 679, to Route 669, and back onto Route 8 South.
