UPDATE: Person killed in Chatham accident involving Pittsylvania County deputy

CHATHAM, Va. — The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office has identified T.R. Moore as the deputy involved in a fatal accident Monday in Chatham.

Moore has been with the department since 2007.

Moore's injuries have been described as "non-life threatening."

A person was killed Monday morning in an accident involving a Pittsylvania County Sheriff's deputy.

The accident happened at 11:05 a.m. on Route 29 in Chatham, about a half-mile north of Route 29 Business.

The deputy was headed north on Route 29 when a Ford Ranger pickup pulled out of a business trying to cross the northbound lanes. The deputy's vehicle hit the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released yet.

The deputy was taken to the Danville Regional Medical Center with injuries described as "non-life threatening." The deputy's name has not been released yet by investigators.
