MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. — A 19-year-old Roanoke man was killed in an accident on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County on Friday afternoon.
The man has been identified as Joseph Arellano Perez.
According to Virginia State Police, Perez was driving a truck near mile marker 105 when he tried to switch lanes. He over corrected, then his truck ran off the right side of the road and hit an embankment.
Perez was wearing a seat belt, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck was owned by ISR Environmental Services of Blacksburg.
The accident backed up traffic on the interstate for several hours.

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash that occurred around 12:45 pm today on Interstate 81 southbound at the 105.8 mile post in Montgomery County. A 2000 International truck operated by Joseph Arellano Perez, age 19, of Roanoke, Virginia was traveling in the right lane when he was attempting to switch lanes and ran off the left side of the roadway, over corrected and then ran off the right side of the roadway striking an embankment before overturning. Perez was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The truck was a company vehicle and is owned by ISR Environmental Services of Blacksburg, Virginia.
