Stores tell WDBJ7 they no longer sell illegal bath salts, synthetic marijuana

The designer drugs became illegal in Virginia on July 1st

ROANOKE, Va. — It's been ten days since a new law took effect banning all forms of synthetic marijuana and bath salts.

WDBJ7 showed you in the past various stores in our area selling these designer drugs. So we wanted to get an answer to a simple question today: Are these same stores still selling them?

We went to DK Tobacco on Hardy Road in Vinton and when we went there about a month ago, we were able to buy bath salts from them. They are illegal federally and became illegal in Virginia on July first. They stopped selling them and didn't have any behind the counter, according to store employees.

We also went to AJ's Tobacco outside Rocky Mount, where we purchased synthetic marijuana back in March.

"We don't sell that kind of stuff anymore," an employee told WDBJ7. "Because of July 1st. We don't sell it anymore."

Law enforcement in the area told WDBJ7 they are building cases against shops and plan indictments in the future.
