ROANOKE, Va. — He was here three weeks ago, and now it appears that Paul Ryan, the Republican candidate for Vice President, is returning to the Roanoke Valley. Ryan is scheduled to attend a fundraiser at the Hotel Roanoke Friday night with tickets that range from $250 for a reception to $10,000 for a private dinner.
Hotel Roanoke just got the call Monday night. Planners there don't have all the details yet, but the hotel is happy to be hosting the fundraiser. Gary Walton is the General Manager. "It's great to have an opportunity to have the candidate here," Walton told WDBJ7, "and we're looking forward to it."
Since Paul Ryan's addition to the GOP ticket in Norfolk last month, the Vice Presidential candidate has made at least four visits to the state, including the rally August 22nd at a Roanoke County hardware store.
We spoke with Abby and Aaron Stough as they walked through Market Square on Tuesday afternoon. "It makes me feel like Roanoke's really on the map if he's coming twice," Abby told us, "Go Roanoke."
Aaron agreed. "I'm glad to see Roanoke on the map, too," he told us, "I think it's a good thing. It sounds like it's a little bit extravagant, so yeah I definitely won't be going either."
Ryan won't be the only high-profile visitor in Virginia this week. On Thursday Mitt Romney will campaign in northern Virginia, and Michele Obama will rally the President's supporters in Fredericksburg.
