MARTINSVILLE, Va. — One of the anchor stores in a Southern Virginia mall is going out of business.

Managers confirmed Sears in Liberty Mall in Martinsville will close before the end of the year.

It was one of the malls orginial stores when it first opened in 1989.

Regular shoppers are disappointed.

"We're sad. We really are sad. Losing a store is kind of like losing another factory," said Louise Franklin.

Corporate representatives say they decided to close because of lease negotiations.

Employees will be told when other Sears or K-mart jobs open in the company's other locations.
