Murder victim mourned as suspect turns self in

Alex Hamm is accused in the death of Anthony Hall

ROANOKE., Va. — UPDATED 9:35pm Monday:

Roanoke police say they've arrested the suspect in weekend murder.

Officers say Alex Hamm turned himself into police at about 8:45pm Monday. He's charged with the murder of Anthony Hall. Investigators say Hall was stabbed outside the Bridge Street Grill in southwest Roanoke early Saturday morning.


Family and friends are remembering a murder victim while police search for his killer.

Anthony Hall was stabbed early Saturday morning at The Bridge Street Grille in the Norwich section of Roanoke city.

He later died at the hospital. Hall was 27 and a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

He is being remembered as an avid singer, outdoorsman and all-around good guy who even gave the shoes off his own feet to a man who's shoes were torn.

"Who he is as a man is what's keeping us going right now - a strong, hopeful, positive, energetic, bright light of a person," said JD Sutphin, Hall's cousin and friend.


Police are looking for Alex "Fred" Hamm.

Investigators aren't saying much, but tell us Hamm is wanted for murder.
