We’re learning new information about a home invasion suspect who was shot and killed Tuesday evening in Roanoke.

A person inside the home shot and killed a man who broke into the home. This happened at the Westwood Village Apartments around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday evening. The Westwood Village Apartments are off Salem Turnpike on Westwood Boulevard.

According to investigators, a man inside the apartment heard a knock at his door and opened it. Two suspects then forced their way into the apartment. During the fight, a second person inside the home fired a gun at the suspect. Neighbors believe a woman who lives in the apartment pulled the trigger.

"That's terrible that that happened cause she has three children, she just had a newborn baby and that's so sad that someone would try to do that to her because she is such a sweetheart," Westwood Village Apartments resident Amanda Byrd said.

The suspect died by the time police got to the apartment complex. Police have been able to determine the suspect’s identity, but have not released his name yet.

The second suspect who broke into the apartment ran away. At this time police are still searching for that second suspect.
