UPDATED: 9-year-old killed in Rockbridge County wreck

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. — Update 10:00 a.m. -

We're learning more about the crash from Virginia State Police.

The crash only involved one car, a 2000 Subaru Outback.

It happened on Route 39, east of Route 622.

37-year-old Johua Lee Sorrells od Buena Vista was driving east when he ran off the right side of the road and hit several trees.

His passenger, 9-year-old Ashton Walker Sorrells of Buena Vista, was killed.

Ashton was wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


A little boy is dead after a car crash in Rockbridge County.   

State police tell us the 9-year-old boy from Buena Vista was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed Saturday around 5 p.m.  


Investigators say the vehicle was traveling on route 39 when the driver went off the road and hit two trees.
