ROANOKE, Va. — UPDATE: November 22, 3:00 pm- A Roanoke man has now been charged with murder in a domestic incident in Hurt Park Wednesday. Police have charged Claude Ndumurwanko after they say he stabbed his wife, Miriam Ndarugiriye, and tried to hang himself. Their children were locked inside the home on Salem Avenue during the alleged incident and an adult son likely saved Ndurmurwanko's life. He is currently in the Roanoke city jail.

The Roanoke Police Department makes an arrest in the homicide that occurred on November 21, 2012, in the 1300 block of Salem Avenue. Roanoke Detectives have charged Claude Ndumurwanko, age 44 of Roanoke, with Murder in connection with the death of his wife, Mariam Ndarugiriye, age 40 of Roanoke. Claude Ndumurwanko has been arrested and is currently being held at the Roanoke City jail.
Roanoke police believe a man stabbed his wife to death and then tried to take his own life early Wednesday morning in the 1300 block of Salem Ave. near Hurt Park Elementary School. Mariam Ndarugiriye, 40, was found stabbed to death in a bedroom. When police arrived the home was padlocked from the inside with eight children inside ranging in age from 4 to 21. Roanoke City police had to break through a window and the children directed them to the basement where Claude Ndumurwanko, 44, was lying on the floor. Police believe he tried to hang himself and one of the adult children cut him down. Ndumurwanko was taken to the hospital. None of the children were hurt.
