BLACKSBURG, Va. — It doesn't happen often but next year school in Montgomery County will start later than usual.
For nearly 15 years, Montgomery County began the school year in the third week of August. But that won’t happen for the 2013-14 school year.
School board members voted last night to start the next school year on September 4 because the school board says it needs more time to get both new schools - Auburn High and Blacksburg High – set up.
School officials say the construction schedule is on target, but they need more time to ''wire rooms,” get them up to speed ''tech wise" and they need to get tables, chairs, and equipment physically moved into the new schools.
