DANVILLE, Va. — One of the stars of the TV show “Moonshiners” has been arrested for public intoxication in Danville.

Steven Ray Tickle was arrested Thursday in a convenience store parking lot. Police were originally called to Charley’s Stop and Shop on Franklin Turnpike in Danville around 2:40 p.m. Thursday after a complaint about a man drinking in a vehicle. Investigators say they saw Tickle drinking from an open container.

According to a news release, an officer smelled alcohol while approaching the car. After Tickle was unable to make arrangements for someone to pick him up, he was arrested for being drunk in public.

Tickle, 35, was taken to the Danville City Jail and released later Thursday. He lives in Pittsylvania County.

The show "Moonshiners" airs on the Discovery Channel. The show follows several groups of people making illegal alcohol. According to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for the Discovery Channel did not immediately return a call seeking comment. The Discovery Channel's website describes Tickle as "a hard working still hand who loves moonshine."
