RUSSELL CO., Va. — A single car accident in Russell County on Thursday morning resulted in the death of an Abingdon woman.
According to a news release, Senior Trooper K.K. Davis was called to the scene of the wreck at 9:52 a.m. on Thursday.
The Chevrolet Impala that was involved in the crash was traveling north on Route 80 when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver overcorrected, causing her to lose control of the car. The car then travelled back across the roadway, ran off the right side of the road, and into the median where it struck several trees.
The driver, Kathryn Horn, 56, of Abingdon, died at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Speed is reportedly being investigated as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
