A Danville man died in a car accident Sunday morning. Roy Willis crashed his car on Westover Drive around 10 a.m. He was taken to the hospital and later flown to Roanoke where he died. The crash is being investigated.

Two people were taken to the hospital following a car accident at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Henry Road around 4 p.m. Wednesday. One person was trapped inside the car, and crews had to extricate the person from the vehicle. The Danville Fire Department was on the scene for about 45 minutes.

A single car accident in Russell County on Thursday morning resulted in the death of an Abingdon woman. According to a news release, Senior Trooper K.K. Davis was called to the scene of the wreck at 9:52 a.m. on Thursday. The Chevrolet Impala that was involved in the crash was traveling north on Route 80 when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver overcorrected, causing her to lose control of the car. The car then travelled back across the roadway, ran off the right side of the road, and into the median where it struck several trees.

A Forest man died in a car accident Tuesday night in Campbell County. 59-year-old Jerry Payne was killed when his SUV went off Route 683 and hit a tree, and then flipped. The accident happened around 8:30 p.m., less than a mile north of Route 691. Payne was pronounced dead before he could be taken to the hospital. No other cars were involved in the accident.

Texting while driving meant a close call for a driver in Salem. Authorities say an SUV stopped short of dropping into the Roanoke River Sunday just after 10 p.m. Instead, the vehicle landed in some woods off West Riverside Drive. Officials say 20-year-old Steven Myers ran off the road while texting. He's charged with reckless driving.

A Pittsylvania County man was seriously injured Thursday morning after being thrown from his car in Danville. The driver was headed west on Westover Drive in Danville when he struck a telephone pole near Vandola Road. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Danville Police Department. The man was flown to Duke University Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition. The crash happened around 7:25 a.m. Thursday.

Around a hundred people came out to honor two children Thursday evening. Jaden Baker, who was just eight, and her 4-year-old cousin Delaney Bishopriggs, died last Friday night in a car wreck on the U-S 11 Bypass Bridge in Lexington. Dozens of candles were lit as the community sang songs and remembered Delaney and Jaden. People also wore purple and pink as those were the girls favorite colors. It's been nearly a week since the crash, but family members are still having a hard time believing what happened.

Many parents will tell you, a car accident involving their child is their worst nightmare. Beth Worth has a 17-year-old daughter and worries every time she gets behind the wheel. "We have very open and frank discussions about the perils of alcohol and what she should be aware of," said Worth, who works as a public information specialist for Campbell County. Many parents aren't having that discussion with their children and that could be why so many accidents involve teenagers who drink and drive.

The local meteorologist seriously hurt in a car accident last week in Bedford County is now out of intensive care, according to his employer. WSET reports that Jamey Singleton is now in guarded condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Singleton was seriously hurt in the Feb. 19 accident on Route 122 in Bedford County when police say he crossed the center line and smashed into a delivery truck. Two people inside the delivery truck were hurt, but their injuries are not believed to be serious.

A Patrick Springs woman was killed Friday morning in a car accident in Henry County. Charlotte Bowers, 57, died after her car went off Route 677 and hit a tree. The accident happened around 9:20 a.m., just east of Route 901. Bowers was not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man is dead after an accident in Henry County. Virginia State police said the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Route 687, just south of Route 627.  A car was going south when the driver crossed the center line and hit an SUV going north.  The driver of the car, 43-year-old Tommy Lee Earles of Martinsville, was not wearing a seat belt and was killed in the crash.  There's no information about the condition of the other driver. ...

UPDATE: The Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that happened Saturday afternoon around 4:50 on interstate 581 southbound near the Orange Ave. Police say a motorcycle was attempting to merge onto I 581 south when the driver of the crossed several lanes and ran into the side of an SUV. The driver of that SUV was not hurt. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries he sustained in the crash.

A Lynchburg man died in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Campbell County. The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Camp Hydaway Road. Bobby Hughes died after his truck went off the road and flipped. He was not wearing a seat belt. Hughes was 64.

A car accident killed a Bedford man. It happened 4:40 p.m. Friday on Big Island Highway in Bedford.   Virginia State Police says 53-year-old Mark Webster was travelling northbound when he ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment.    The car overturned several times and hit a parked van at Arrington Grocery and Tire Services.   Webster died at the scene. Police are still investigating.
