Christiansburg officials say the evacuations and detour caused by a gas leak are over.  A town spokeswoman says the ruptured line was contained around 1:00 p.m.  The fire department checked the buildings in the affected area.  No problems were found and residents were allowed to return. --------------------- Authorities in Christiansburg are evacuating residents on North Franklin Street between Main Street and Depot Street because of a gas line break.  North Franklin Street is also closed to traffic and police are asking people to avoid this area until further notice.

We have a traffic alert to tell you about tonight. In Roanoke, traffic on Riverland Road will be detoured onto the newly paved section for several months. Because of the new traffic pattern, a new stop sign has been installed at the intersection of Riverland Road, Mount Pleasant Boulevard and Bennington Street. The detour is necessary so that crews can realign the intersection of of Riverland Road and Garden City Boulevard. They are also performing earthwork.

Beginning Sunday, April 7, nighttime detours and lane closures are scheduled for northbound Interstate 81 as part of the ongoing road construction project to build a five-mile truck climbing lane along southbound I-81 in Montgomery County between mile markers 120 and 125. A southbound detour will take place Sunday, April 7. The detour will begin at 10 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-81 traffic will be detoured at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) onto Route 11/460 and back onto I-81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg)

A detour Tuesday night on Interstate 81 South in Montgomery County will start earlier than previously announced. The detour start time has been changed from 9 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The detour will be in place from 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night to 6 a.m. early Wednesday morning. Traffic on I-81 South will be detoured at Exit 132 (Dixie Caverns), to Route 460, and back onto I-81 at Exit 118 (Christiansburg). This is part of the truck climbing lane project in Montgomery County. The earlier start time is needed to complete work for the traffic switch between mile markers 120 and 124 on I-81 South.

Here's a traffic alert for drivers in Montgomery County. Starting Sunday night, there will be a detour set up on part of Interstate 81. Construction crews are building a truck climbing lane. From 10:00 p.m. Sunday until 6:00 a.m. Monday, traffic headed north will get off the highway in Christiansburg at exit 118. Drivers will head up Route 11 and back onto the highway at Dixie Caverns. or exit 132. This detour will be set up every night at the same time until the work is finished.

If you travel Route 11-460 in the Glenvar area of Roanoke County, you're probably no stranger to the traffic troubles that have been there for years. The widening project started in the fall of 2010 and has since hit some road bumps along the way. Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation said the project is now behind schedule. VDOT is pointing the finger at drivers who have taken I-81 at one point or another. They said motorists decided to take a shortcut around another VDOT project and now the work on 11-460 is months behind.

There will be detours on Interstate 81 South in Montgomery County on Monday night as crews continue work on a truck climbing lane. Starting at 9 p.m. Monday, traffic on I-81 South will be detoured at Exit 132 (Dixie Caverns), on to Route 460, and back onto I-81 at Exit 118 (Christiansburg). The detours will be in place from 9 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Crews are working to remove the bridge on Route 636 (Friendship Road). The work is part of a truck climbing lane being built between mile markers 120 and 125 in Montgomery County.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says an additional detour is needed Wednesday night on Interstate 81 North in Montgomery County. Wednesday night's detour was not scheduled. The detour on Wednesday night will be put in place at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday morning. The detour is needed for the delivery of bridge beams for a truck climbing lane between mile markers 120 and 125. ------------------------------ Although blasting is over on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County, you can expect nighttime delays in that area starting Monday night.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is putting nighttime detours in place on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County. The detours are part of the five-mile truck climbing lane project between mile markers 120 and 125. The detours will start at 9 p.m. each night from Sunday through Thursday. Traffic on I-81 South will be detoured at Exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) to Route 11/460, and back onto I-81 at Exit 118. Drivers on I-81 North will be detoured at Exit 118 (Christiansburg)

More blasting on Interstate 81 means more vehicles using the detour on Route 460 in Montgomery County. In Shawsville, school bus drivers say the extra traffic means longer runs taking children to and from school. It can easily add 15 to 30 minutes. "I just tell them we gotta be patient you know," says bus driver Sandra Lovern who has about four runs throughout the day, "They say we're gonna be late for class and I'm like well they'll have to understand. " Farmers have to change their day based on the I-81 blasting.

Be ready for slow moving traffic in one part of Lynchburg. Construction is starting on the Wards Road Bridge at Candlers Mountain Road. Workers will have to close and reopen lanes there on and off from Monday until mid-October. They'll set up a detour for trucks.

Interstate 81 South in Montgomery County is back open after an emergency detour. The detour was put in place around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The road re-opened shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday. I-81 South between Dixie Caverns (Exit 132) and Christiansburg (Exit 118) was closed so VDOT crews could fix an unsafe slope. The detour caused huge backups on Route 11/460. ============================= 4:57 a.m. Thursday: In the interest of safety, traffic will continue to be detoured off southbound Interstate 81 throughout the morning due to an unstable slope located at mile marker 124.8 in Montgomery County.

Route 151 in Amherst County is back open after a tractor-trailer crash Wednesday morning. ================================= The tractor-trailer that tipped over on Route 151 on Wednesday morning was carrying blasting material. The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. when the driver lost control on Route 151 in the Clifford area. The truck was carrying oxidizing agents. It was headed to the Piney River Rock Quarry. The material in the truck is used for blasting at the quarry.

As part of the ongoing project to build a truck climbing lane on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County, VDOT is putting a detour in place Wednesday night. The detour will start at 8:30 p.m., and be in place until 6 a.m. Thursday morning. Here is the news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation: As part of the ongoing work to construct a truck climbing lane on southbound I-81 between mile markers 125 and 120 on southbound I-81, a detour is planned tonight.   The previously announced detour time has been rescheduled, and the detour will now be in place starting at 8:30 p.m.  The detour is expected to be removed at 6 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Max and Katie leave the pit stop at 2 in the morning to travel to Scotland. The airport was closed when the teams arrived. Max & Katie, Caroline & Jennifer, and Bates & Anthony are all aboard a 1pm flight. Joey& Meghan and Beth & Mona are on a different flight heading to Edinburgh, Scotland.   The plane with the three teams lands first. Racers are off to the Gosford House. When they arrive they find a   ROADBLOCK   One member of each team must play the bagpipes with the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

On Sunday, Campbell Avenue, between 3rd Street SW and 4th Street SW, will be closed to through traffic at 7:00 AM- 5:00 PM due to utility work. A detour will be established. LMC Barricades will furnish all barricades, signs, cones, etc.
