It helped Veterans show their patriotism and someone purposely tried to destroy it. A group of girl scouts built a platform and staircase a few years ago at Floyd County High School's football stadium. It makes it easier for Veterans to raise the flag at all home football games. But someone vandalized it - breaking the lights and splitting the wood sometime after last Friday game. The school has fixed most of the damage, and it's ready to go for the game this Friday when Floyd County takes on Fort Chiswell.

Updates and repairs are needed at many of the Wythe County Schools, according to a recently completed facility study. The study suggested $31.3 million worth of repairs at county schools. None of the projects are emergencies, according to school staff. Instead, updates included adding more space in croweded buildings like Fort Chiswell Middle, tearing down or renovating the agriculture building at Rural Retreat Middle, updating electrical systems to handle new technology, and adding airconditiong to older buildings.

Levi Mullins and the Glenvar Highlanders were in Floyd this week, hoping that quarterback Levi Mullins could continue his streak of at least 2 TD passes in every game this season.  Floyd County was trying to get back on track following their loss to Fort Chiswell. Glenvar and Floyd were also with their district opener this week. The Buffalo fans were out in full-force for this Three Rivers District battle. Floyd made a big statement on their opening drive. Matt Bary handed-off to Dorian Harris, who broke a tackle, bulldozed the next defender and cut-back across the field.
