Lane Stadium's big letter 'T' has been returned. The 't' was stolen some time during the night of the Georgia Tech game on September 3rd.  But it showed up at the Georgia Tech police station in the middle of the night two nights ago and was returned to Blacksburg on Monday with an apology from the Georgia Tech administration. There's no indication of who took the 't'.  It's something that has gone on for decades at Georgia Tech, but the university and its student government association are working to put an end to the act of vandalism.

The Virginia Tech Hokies are 10-and-a-half point favorites in their first road game of the season Saturday at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, which you can see on ESPNU at high noon.   The Tech offense has had a few hiccups in the first two games of the season, but it's a unit that has looked extremely sharp in the two minute drill, both against Georgia Tech and Austin Peay.  And it all starts with quarterback Logan Thomas who has done some of his very best work in the hurry up offense.

Vad Lee appears to be emerging as Georgia Tech's future at quarterback. Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said Tuesday he'll try to play Lee behind senior starter Tevin Washington on Saturday against Virginia. Johnson says Lee, a redshirt freshman, is still learning. The coach says he doesn't want to "throw him to the lions. " Lee had a successful debut playing behind Washington in last week's 59-3 win over Presbyterian. He ran for 101 yards, including a 79-yarder, and threw an impressive 82-yard touchdown pass.

ACC weekly awards rolled in for a pair of Wahoos Monday. Steve Greer was named linebacker of the week after a 15-tackle, 2 sack performance against Penn State. And Oday Aboushi was named offensive lineman of the week.         Both players will play key roles as UVa goes on the road for the first time this weekend. Virginia was 4-1 on the road last year and will take its first trip of 2012 this Saturday when they travel to Georgia Tech in their ACC opener. The point of emphasis this week is on a rushing attack that struggled in the first two games, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry.

The Virginia Tech Hokies take the field at Lane Stadium on Saturday for the second time in five days.  They'll be huge favorites on Hall of Fame day in Blacksburg. Wide receiver Corey Fuller had a few hall of fame moments Monday night against Georgia Tech.  Fuller, who only had two catches in his career, came up with five receptions for 82 yards in the win, including two huge ones in the final drive to force overtime. Not bad for the third of four brothers to play for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech wide receiver D.J. Coles will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, the athletic department announced Thursday. Coles had surgery on his right knee in the offseason, and re-aggravated the same knee during the first quarter of Monday night's 20-17 overtime win against Georgia Tech. Coles will be eligible to apply for a medical hardship waiver at the end of the season because he has not played in 30 percent of the 2012 season. Coles has not redshirted, so if he is granted the waiver he would be able to return for a fifth season next year.
