A Danville manis in jail after taking a truck in Danville early Friday morning. It happened shortly after 2:00 a.m. when police tried stopping the driver of a dump truck along Norwood Drive. The driver did not stop, and a low speed chase ensued.  After a short pursuit, Robert Marion Julian Register, 22, was arrested. Register is charged with driving under the influence, grand larceny, eluding police, and driving on a suspended licence.  He is being held in the Danville City Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

Three men have been arrested in connection with a pair of break-ins in the Goodview Area of Bedford County. The break-ins happened in December on Navigation Point Drive. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Nicholas Allen and 32-year-old Alfred Sink of Goodview, as well as 59-year-old Dennis Robey. Robey lives on Navigation Point Drive. They have been charged with two counts of grand larceny and two counts of breaking and entering.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Department has charged 29-year-old Robert Adkins in connection with several home break-ins. The break-ins happened during this past month in the Fancy Gap and Cana areas. Adkins has been charged with 3 counts of breaking and entering and three counts of grand larceny. The Sheriff says he expects more charges to be filed in connection with other break-ins Adkins is being held in the New River Regional Jail without bond.

The Salem Police Department has arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with several residential burglaries. Andrew Boothe of Salem has been charged with three counts of burglary and grand larceny. Police say they found Boothe with stolen property. The burglaries happened on the 1500 block of Cliffview Drive on Feb. 13. Also, Salem Police have charged two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old from Roanoke County in connection with two commercial burglaries and a vehicle theft on the weekend of January 28-29.

Two Martinsville men are charged with breaking into a car. On Wednesday night two officers saw a vehicle parked behind a home with several items inside. The vehicle appeared to be broken into. The officers also noticed the back door of a home was forced open, and searched the home. When they got upstairs they found Matthew Griggs, 27, of Martinsville, and Michael Wayne Bowers, 27, Patrick Springs, hiding in the attic. Griggs and Bowers have been charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office arrested Matthew Lee McCrickard of Axton for conspiracy to commit robbery and grand larceny. He is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail. The Henry county Sheriff's Office also arrested Christopher Michael Vaughn of Collinsville for robbery and grand larceny. He is being processed at this time and bond has not been determined. These charges are in reference to a robbery which took place at 40 Phantom Lane in Ridgeway around 10 p.m. on April 9th. Vaughn, McCrickard and a third man entered the house, and at gunpoint forced the victims, Damian Wolfe and Jeremy Tuggle to the floor and stole several items, including cell phones, jewelry, a computer and tattoo guns.

A man is in custody and accused of stealing a car from the Bonsack Walmart. Jerry Spradlin is facing grand larceny charges. Spradlin is 60 years old and from the Roanoke area. The Roanoke County Police Department says on Oct. 3 Spradlin was in the Walmart parking lot when he saw a man drop his car keys. Spradlin accused of picking up the keys and eventually getting into the car and driving off. Police make an arrest after a string of robberies during the 2010 holiday shopping season. Raymond J. King, 19 of Blacksburg, is charged with nine counts of breaking and entering, ten counts of grand larceny, and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to police. Blacksburg police arrested King on March 18. The robberies happened in the Northeast and Northwest sections of Blacksburg during the Christmas holiday season. Blacksburg police worked with Montgomery Co. and Giles Co. Sheriff's Offices to make the arrest.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A jury says a former University of Virginia lacrosse player should serve 25 years in prison for the second-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend. The jurors recommended the punishment hours after they found George Huguely V guilty of second-degree murder of Yeardley Love. The suburban Baltimore woman was found dead in the bedroom of her Charlottesville apartment in May 2010. He also was sentenced to 1 year for a grand larceny conviction. Huguely's head was bowed during sentencing.

A man believed to have caused a power outage by stealing copper has been arrested. 25-year-old Kristoffer Balin of Lowesville has been charged with seven counts of grand larceny and seven countys of felony property damage by the Amherst County Sheriff's Office. Balin is charged in connection to the larceny of copper from an Appalachian Power substation in Amherst on April 17. The larceny caused a power outage in the area. He is also facing charges for cases involving the Federal Aviation Administration, Rockbridge County Emergency Services, Dominion Power Company, U.S. Forest Service, Region 2000 Radio Board towers, as well as a home owner who had a significant amount of copper stolen.
