The NASCAR Hall of Fame will grow by five members bringing the total number of inductees to 20.  It's a class that includes pioneers in racing, Herb Thomas, Cotton Owens, and Buck Baker, along with Rusty Wallace from the modern era.   Then there's Patrick County native Leonard Wood who along with brother Glen, did more to revolutionize the sport of NASCAR racing than perhaps anyone in motorsports history. Leonard Wood made a living out of trying to make racecars go faster.  But he was so much more than an outstanding mechanic.  Wood perfected the modern day pit stop, shaving seconds and beating opponents on pit road by using air guns to get lug nuts off of tires, and lighter jacks that would lift the car with fewer pumps.  “You think you've gone as far as you can go and you just go at it and keep practicing a little bit and pretty soon you come up and knock another second off so to watch those guys go out there today and change the tires in twelve to fourteen seconds, this is unheard of,” Leonard Wood said.
