Blacksburg police are investigating a strong-arm robbery at Virginia Tech. It happened around 12:25 p.m. Friday on Prices Fork Road, near University City. Investigators have identified Evan Stump of Radford as a suspect. They say Stump tried to steal money from the victim, and a fight ensued. Police say Stump ran away after the fight. The victim was not injured.

A drug dealer from Henry County says he organized a robbery that ended in a murder. Rodney Hairston pleaded guilty to the charges in Danville Tuesday. Prosecutors say he committed the crime with four other men. They've also pleaded guilty to the same conspiracy and murder charges as Hairston. All of the men could go to prison for the rest of their lives.

What were divers doing in a pond near the Clearbrook Wal-Mart in Roanoke County? Investigators from Bedford County say the dive team was looking for evidence related to the robbery of Bob Terry.  The 81-year-old man was robbed and nearly beaten to death inside his Moneta store about a year ago. Deputies would not tell WDBJ7 what they were looking for. Jason Shell, the man charged with the beating, is scheduled to stand trial in December....

An arrest has been made in a Martinsville bank robbery. Investigators say John Bowles walked into the BB&T bank on Elsworth Street around 1:30 p.m. Monday and handed the teller a note. Bowles left on foot, and was arrested a short time later at the corner of Main and Clay Street. He has been charged with one count of robbery.

In a jailhouse interview with CBS affiliate WVNS, the suspect in this week's bank robbery in Roanoke says he's innocent. Investigators say Richard Ames robbed the Suntrust Bank Tuesday. He wasn't seen again until Wednesday night, when he led authorities on a 20-hour manhunt in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. From there, Ames was booked into jail in Beckley, West Virginia. Ames says he's not the same person who robbed the bank this week. Surveillance photos show a man talking on his cell phone, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

WVNS Television reports that Richard Henry Ames, III was taken into custody around 1:00 p.m. Roanoke police say Ames is charged with robbing a Sun Trust bank branch Tuesday.  He is also charged with a probation violation. ------------------ U.S. Marshals are teaming up with state troopers in West Virginia to track down a man wanted for a bank robbery in Roanoke. According to WVNS Richard Ames is on the run in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Investigators believe he robbed a SunTrust bank in Roanoke on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office is looking for three robbery suspects. Investigators say on July 24 four men broke into a home on Oakwood Drive in Brosville. The victim told police that the men beat him, tried to bind him with duct tape, and then stole money from his home. One of the suspects, DaShaye Simon, was arrested by the Henry County Sheriff's Office and is being held in the Pittsylvania County Jail without bond. Investigators are still looking for three other suspects.

The trial is set to start for a man who's accused of killing a Roanoke man at a Pennsylvania motel two years ago. In their opening arguments Wednesday, prosecutors will say Tracey Bradley killed Lee Choppin during a robbery back in May of 2010. They'll likely play a video tape for the jury they say shows Bradley admitting to putting Choppin in a sleeper-hold, essentially choking him, in hopes he'd pass out. Bradley's lawyers say they'll call a doctor to the witness stand who will testify that Choppin may have just died from natural causes.

Police have now identified three people involved in the beating and robbery of a VCU student and another beating on the VCU campus on August 22.  Brothers Zachary and Adam Wallace of Henrico are charged with assault by mob and a 17-year-old teenage male has been charged with robbery. The crimes happened in two different places, all just before 3 a.m., near the intersection of West Franklin and Shafer Street and Grace and Shafer Street. A man is sitting in the Roanoke County jail accused of robbing a store with a gun. Police say the robbery happened just before 5:00pm Saturday on Electric Road. Investigators say Mark Redd walked into Smokin' Joe's wearing a mask and showed a gun. It's not clear how police caught him. Redd is now charged with several crimes related to the robbery.
